Know them for a year, have them talk to you for hours about their life and problems, meet their parents.
Invite them round to watch a film and make it clear at 1am that you are tired and have to get up at 6.
Notice how they frequently invade your personal space despite how obviously uncomfortable it makes you.
Have them stay another hour and a half talking about their life, and Facebook stalking a girl they fancy.
Notice how they don’t even realise you haven’t spoken for an hour.
When you mention your parents are visiting, see them be totally surprised that your parents are divorced and that one of them is transgender, and that the gender identity of your parent didn’t cause the divorce, despite the fact you have had discussions about both these facts with your entire friendship group.
Have them ask invasive questions about your parent that they would never ask about a cis parent.
Hear them say stupid dismissive mansplaining shit about how you cant expect gender reassignment surgery to be easily available on the NHS and how you cant be a ‘social justice warrior’ all the time before chatting more about their own life and leaving.
I am knackered.
I was raised to be too polite for my own good.
In the Amazon, it’s not uncommon to see groups of colorful butterflies fluttering around turtles basking along the river. This is because they drink the turtles’ tears—an invaluable source of salt for the herbivorous butterflies.
The most charming last week with all my friends in Heidelberg that I could ever have asked for.
Also I’m drunk and my freckles are coming out to play
